The Langtang and Gosaikunda Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes within Langtang National Park, located in the northeastern region of central Nepal, close to Kathmandu. This scenic journey offers an incredible mix of natural beauty and cultural richness. Trekkers pass through deep gorges, rugged rocky trails, pine and rhododendron forests, open yak pastures, traditional villages, terraced hillsides, peaceful valleys, and stunning glaciers flowing down from towering Himalayan peaks. The trek also provides valuable insight into Buddhist culture, with visits to ancient monasteries and spiritual landmarks. A major highlight of the journey is the sacred Gosaikunda Lake (4,380 m), a high-altitude alpine freshwater lake revered by both Hindus and Buddhists in the Rasuwa region.
The trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu along the Trishuli River, passing through Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche before reaching Syabrubesi, a traditional Tamang village situated on the banks of the Bhote Koshi River. From Syabrubesi, the trail follows the Langtang River through lush forests and charming settlements to reach Lama Hotel, where the first night is spent.
On the following day, the trek continues from Lama Hotel to Langtang Village, one of the largest Tamang settlements in the valley. From there, the trail leads onward to Kyangjin Gompa, the spiritual and cultural heart of the Langtang region. An acclimatization day is spent at Kyangjin Gompa, offering optional hikes to Tserko Ri viewpoint, visits to the local yak cheese factory, and exploration of the ancient Kyangjin Gompa monastery, all while enjoying panoramic Himalayan views.
