Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular and thrilling trekking destinations in eastern Nepal, located near the border between Nepal and Sikkim (India). Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 m), the world’s third-highest peak, dominates this remote and spectacular region. Opened to trekkers only in 1988, the Kanchenjunga trekking route remains one of Nepal’s least explored and most unspoiled trails.
This trek offers an incredible diversity of landscapes, rich cultural experiences, and breathtaking panoramic views. Trekkers are rewarded with stunning sights of four of the world’s highest mountains, including Mount Everest, Mount Lhotse, Mount Makalu, and Mount Kanchenjunga itself. The entire region falls under the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project (KCAP), which covers an area of 2,035 square kilometers and protects a wide range of flora and fauna.
The conservation area is home to rare wildlife such as the snow leopard, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, red panda, and numerous bird species, including pheasants and red-billed blue magpies. Along the trail, trekkers also experience the unique lifestyles, traditions, and cultures of local communities such as the Sherpa, Rai, and other ethnic groups. Combined with pristine natural scenery and magnificent snow-capped mountain views, the Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek offers a truly unforgettable Himalayan adventure.
