Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal’s vibrant capital. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed and transferred to your hotel. Take the day to rest, recover from your journey, and explore the city at your leisure. In the evening, there will be a brief orientation session with your trekking team to review the itinerary, discuss important preparations, and answer any questions before the adventure begins.

After breakfast, enjoy a half-day sightseeing tour of Kathmandu’s cultural landmarks, including Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple), Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Pashupatinath Temple. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in Nepal’s rich heritage before the trek.

In the afternoon, return to the hotel for trek preparation, including gear checks, briefing with your trekking team, and finalizing permits and paperwork. This ensures you are fully ready for the journey ahead.

After an early breakfast, take a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur. Upon arrival, you will be transferred by jeep to Birtamod, followed by a drive to Taplejung, the starting point of your trek.

Enjoy the beautiful landscapes of eastern Nepal along the way, passing through rolling hills, rivers, and traditional villages. In Taplejung, settle into your lodge, rest, and prepare for the trek ahead.

After breakfast, drive from Mitlung to Sukethum, the official starting point of the trek. From here, begin your trek to Amjilosa, walking through lush forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages.

Along the way, enjoy views of rolling hills and distant peaks, and immerse yourself in the peaceful rural atmosphere of eastern Nepal. Overnight stay will be at a teahouse in Amjilosa, where you can rest and prepare for the journey ahead.

Begin your trek after breakfast, following scenic trails that wind through dense forests, terraced fields, and traditional villages. As you ascend, enjoy panoramic views of surrounding hills and distant peaks, while observing the local way of life in small settlements along the path.

Arrive in Gyabla (2,730 m) by late afternoon. Settle into your teahouse for the night, rest, and soak in the serene mountain environment in preparation for the next day’s trek.

After breakfast, continue your trek along forested trails and mountain streams, gradually gaining altitude. The path takes you through lush rhododendron and pine forests, with occasional glimpses of snow-capped peaks in the distance.

Arrive in the charming village of Ghunsa (3,600 m) in the afternoon. This traditional Sherpa settlement offers a glimpse into the local culture and mountain lifestyle. Overnight stay will be in a teahouse, giving you time to rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude.

Spend the day at Ghunsa to rest and acclimatize to the higher altitude. Take a short hike to nearby viewpoints to enjoy stunning vistas of the Kanchenjunga range and surrounding peaks, which also helps your body adjust to the thinner air.

This day is also a great opportunity to explore the village, interact with the local Sherpa community, and learn about their culture, traditions, and way of life. Overnight stay is at a teahouse in Ghunsa, preparing you for the more challenging days ahead.

After breakfast, continue trekking through dense forests and alpine meadows, gradually gaining altitude. The trail offers breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, glaciers, and the surrounding valleys, making the journey both scenic and memorable.

Arrive at Kambachen (4,100 m) in the afternoon. This peaceful settlement is an ideal place to rest, acclimatize, and prepare for the higher altitudes ahead. Overnight stay will be in a teahouse, surrounded by the serene Himalayan landscape.

After breakfast, continue ascending through high-altitude alpine terrain, with trails that pass glacial streams, rocky ridges, and sparse vegetation. As you climb, the dramatic peaks of the Kanchenjunga range come into full view, offering stunning photo opportunities along the way.

Arrive at Lhonak (4,790 m) in the afternoon, a small settlement near the glacial areas of Kanchenjunga North Base Camp. Overnight stay will be in a teahouse, allowing you to rest and acclimatize for the next day’s trek to the North Base Camp.

After an early breakfast, begin the trek to Pang Pema, the North Base Camp of Kanchenjunga. The trail passes through glacial moraines and high-altitude terrain, with spectacular views of Kanchenjunga and surrounding peaks. At the base camp, soak in the breathtaking panorama of snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and rugged landscapes, a truly unforgettable Himalayan experience.

After breakfast, begin your descent from Lhonak, retracing the scenic trail through high-altitude meadows, rocky ridges, and glacial streams. Enjoy the changing landscapes as you gradually move to lower altitudes, with spectacular views of Kanchenjunga and nearby peaks along the way.

Arrive at Kambachen (3,600 m) in the afternoon. Overnight stay will be at a teahouse, giving you time to rest, relax, and prepare for the next day’s trek to Ghunsa.

After breakfast, continue your descent through the alpine terrain, retracing the trail back toward Ghunsa. Enjoy peaceful forested paths, glacial streams, and stunning mountain views along the way.

Arrive in Ghunsa (3,600 m) in the afternoon. Overnight stay will be in a teahouse, giving you time to rest, rejuvenate, and enjoy the village atmosphere before the next stage of your trek.

After breakfast, begin your descent through lush forests and traditional villages, retracing the trail toward lower altitudes. Along the way, enjoy picturesque landscapes, terraced fields, and glimpses of local village life.

Arrive at Amjilosa or Gyapla (2,510 m) by late afternoon. Overnight stay will be at a teahouse, giving you time to rest and reflect on the journey, while preparing for the final days of your trek.

After breakfast, continue trekking through forests and terraced landscapes, gradually descending toward Sukethum. Along the way, enjoy views of rolling hills, rivers, and traditional villages, marking your final day on the trail.

Arrive at Sukethum by early afternoon, then take a jeep transfer back to Taplejung (2,420 m). Spend the evening at a lodge in Taplejung, resting and celebrating the completion of this memorable Himalayan trek.

After breakfast, take a scenic drive from Taplejung to Bhadrapur, enjoying the rolling hills and picturesque landscapes of eastern Nepal along the way. Upon arrival in Bhadrapur, board a flight back to Kathmandu.

Arrive in Kathmandu (1,400 m) and transfer to your hotel. Spend the evening at leisure, relaxing after the trek, and reflect on the memorable journey through the Kanchenjunga region.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight. This marks the conclusion of your Kanchenjunga North Base Camp Trek, filled with memorable mountain views, cultural experiences, and unforgettable adventures.
